Uncorrected alignment problems in your dentition can cause two of your teeth to meet at an unhealthy angle. As time goes on, this can cause the tooth enamel on one or both of the teeth to gradually wear away. As this happens, the tooth can be at increasing risk of tooth decay and severe dental fracture.

Sometimes Drs. Andre, Hall, and Muncy can treat a case of dental attrition with a standard dental filling. However, if the compromised area of tooth enamel is large, they might recommend restoring the tooth with a dental crown.

After examining the dental attrition and any potential decay, our dentists will use a dental drill to remove the remaining tooth enamel layer from the tooth. This will leave behind a small pillar.

A detailed impression will be made of this tooth and any related teeth in your bite pattern. It will be sent to a dental lab where dental technicians will form your dental crown from either gold, porcelain, or another metallic alloy.

You will need to return to John J. Andre, DDS & Associates when your dental crown is ready. This appointment will be brief as Dr. John J. Andre simply needs to cement the dental work in place with a strong dental adhesive.

If you live in the Louisa, Virginia, area and you have a tooth in distress, you should call (540) 967-0777 to have it examined and treated.
